However, if you plan to attend, please click <a href=\"https:\/\/hese2019.eventbrite.com\">here<\/a> to register.<\/p>\n<p>The theme of this year\u2019s conference is Surviving and Thriving in STEM Cultures.<\/p>\n<p>Survival in STEM environments can mean many things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Recruiting students into programs<\/li>\n<li>Retaining students in programs<\/li>\n<li>Obtaining resources, such as budgets, funding sources, faculty lines, additional services, support for new initiatives<\/li>\n<li>Identifying a balance between quality instruction and reasonable workload<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Beyond survival, however, we want our programs to thrive: to engage students in required courses, promote connections among our programs and other disciplines, create meaningful relationships with STEM faculty and balance our identities as humanities educators with other identities we hold dear.<\/p>\n<p>In the spirit of honoring the myriad meanings of \u201csurviving and thriving,\u201d this year\u2019s conference provides a variety of ways to share your research, knowledge, experience, concerns, reflections or questions. In addition to the traditional panels and individual presentations, we welcome proposals for discussion and round table sessions and poster presentations.<\/p>\n<p>Download the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indianatech.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/HESE-call-for-BIG-or-small-Ideas.pdf\">call for BIG or small Ideas<\/a> to learn about the different ways you can participate. Submit your ideas no later than 5 p.m., Friday, April 12, to professor of English Susan McGrade at <a href=\"mailto:SEMcGrade@IndianaTech.edu\">SEMcGrade@IndianaTech.edu<\/a>. All ideas will be screened by the Humanities Educators in STEM Environments conference planning committee.
