triumph for Tech in track and field!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A compete team effort resulted in a dominating performance on Saturday, March 4, as the Indiana Tech women&#8217;s track and field team rolled to their third consecutive indoor NAIA Championship.\u00a0 It marked the fourth indoor NAIA women&#8217;s title since in school history, the seventh for the women&#8217;s program (indoor+outdoor) all-time, and the 16th national championship for Indiana Tech Track &amp; Field since 2013.<\/p>\n<p>What made this title even more special was the fact that only 23 women made the trip and all 23 competed.\u00a0 20 of the 23 student-athletes earned All-American honors and the other three either broke a school record or had a PR.<\/p>\n<p><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/juanita-webster-freeman\/10502\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"10502\">Juanita Webster-Freeman<\/a><\/dfn> earned Outstanding Performer of the meet for a three-day run that saw her compete in six different events (one of them being the 5-event pentathlon) and score 31 points.\u00a0 She won the pentathlon, took third in the 60 hurdles and shot put, and fourth in the long and high jump.\u00a0 Her 31 points were the second-most by a Tech student-athlete in the indoor championship.\u00a0 Leondra Correia had 38 in 2021.<\/p>\n<p><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/coaches\/doug-edgar\/1348\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"1348\">Doug Edgar<\/a><\/dfn> was named the NAIA&#8217;s Coach of the Year for the 16th time since taking over the program in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>The women captured the team lead early in the day, and while other squads\u00a0made runs, none could approach what turned out to be an 85-point total.\u00a0 Huntington (64), William Carey (58), and Life (50) rounded out the podium teams.<\/p>\n<p>The men had several fine performances, but were short-handed and unable to climb atop the podium (top four) for what would have been the 11th straight year.\u00a0 Tech&#8217;s men finishd 17th with a total of 16 points.<\/p>\n<p>Individual Highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/lisa-voyles\/10360\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"10360\">Lisa Voyles<\/a><\/dfn> won her third straight 1000m title and finished 3rd in the mile.\u00a0 She also anchored Tech&#8217;s 5th place DMR squad.\u00a0 Along with Friday night&#8217;s 4&#215;800, Voyles earned four All-American honors this weekend.<\/li>\n<li>For the second time in as many days, <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/isaac-sytsma\/11231\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"11231\">Isaac Sytsma<\/a><\/dfn> set the school record in the mile.\u00a0 He earned All-American status with an 8th place finish in 4:11.23.<\/li>\n<li>The women got a huge boost in the 60 hurdles with <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/kiya-pogue\/10278\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"10278\">Kiya Pogue<\/a><\/dfn> (8.36), <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/juanita-webster-freeman\/10502\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"10502\">Juanita Webster-Freeman<\/a><\/dfn> (8.48), and <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/katlyn-jones\/10192\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"10192\">Katlyn Jones<\/a><\/dfn> (8.66) all earning national champion honors.\u00a0 Pogue&#8217;s time is the 2nd best in school history.<\/li>\n<li><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/javon-sanders\/10250\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"10250\">Javon Sanders<\/a><\/dfn> (7.97) and <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/ahumad-williams\/10301\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"10301\">Ahumad Williams<\/a><\/dfn> (7.99) finished 5th\/6th in the men&#8217;s 60 hurdles.<\/li>\n<li>Jo&#8217;deci Irby\u00a0finished 3rd in the 600m in 1:32.83.\u00a0 Her time was just .08 off the school record.\u00a0 <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/olaide-olapade\/10204\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"10204\">Olaide Olapade<\/a><\/dfn> also earned All-American honors in the 600m (1:36.12).<\/li>\n<li><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/soyinne-grenyion\/10189\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"10189\">Soyinne Grenyion<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0took 4th in the 60m and earned All-American honors in both that event and the 200m.<\/li>\n<li><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/esau-haynes\/11405\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"11405\">Esau Haynes<\/a><\/dfn> got 4th in the 60m in a new #6 all-time mark of 6.74.<\/li>\n<li><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/krista-boese\/10169\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"10169\">Krista Boese<\/a><\/dfn> earned her first individual All-American mark with a 7th place finish in the 1000m.<\/li>\n<li>The DMR team of Boese (1200), Irby (400), <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/lily-greiwe\/10188\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"10188\">Lily Greiwe<\/a><\/dfn> (800), and Voyles finished 5th to cap off All-American performances in both distance relays.<\/li>\n<li>The men&#8217;s 4&#215;400 team of <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/braden-crosby\/10288\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"10288\">Braden Crosby<\/a><\/dfn>, <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/eric-pullum\/11225\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"11225\">Eric Pullum<\/a><\/dfn>, <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/kamari-rush\/10249\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"10249\">Kamari Rush<\/a><\/dfn>, and <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/michael-warner\/10260\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"10260\">Michael Warner<\/a><\/dfn> finished 6th in 3:16.30.<\/li>\n<li>In his first national appearance, <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/indianatechwarriors.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/noah-schultz\/10297\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"10297\">Noah Schultz<\/a><\/dfn>
